Book Review: Insanity by Cameron Jace

Insanity by Cameron Jace is an Alice In Wonderland retelling.  This book is about a girl named Alice Wonder who lives in an insane asylum. She is here because she apparently killed a bunch of her classmates but she does not quite remember it.  The Alice in Wonderland story comes in to play through characters such as Cheshire and the Caterpillar.  "Wonderland monsters" are incorporated into modern day life.  This is a series of books where Alice will try to solve mysteries and stop these monsters from committing their insane acts.
I liked this book a lot because it was a totally different and unique retelling of the original Alice story.  The writing was decent and kept me hooked the whole way through. I read this one in a couple days.  There are currently 6 books in the series with another on the way.  I will definitely be continuing on with the series.

June Wrap Up

This is my first post so I hope i do these books justice.  I finally got this blog up and running and am excited to bring you some of my opinions on some good books. Maybe some not so good ones.  So without further ado lets get started.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor & Park is about two teenagers who find each other through a bus ride to school.  Eleanor is a girl who is quirky but Park falls in love with her anyway.    To be honest I was not as thrilled with this book as I thought I would be.  I did give it 4 stars.  It was a quick, light read that was somewhat enjoyable. The writing was good overall.  I will definitely be checking out some more books by the author. I have already purchase Fangirl.

Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin

Elsewhere is a book about a young girl who gets hit by a car and when she dies she is taken to Elsewhere on a cruise ship. This is where people in the story go when they die.  It's like normal life in a city where you have jobs and go on living. The only different thing is you age backwards and then are reborn when you hit 0 again.  I like the concept of the book. I actually listened to this on audio book.  I gave this one 4 stars.  I wasn't a big fan of the narrator because it made the book sound much younger than the 16 year old that it was about.  I think I would like to own this one for my collection though.

This is book 1 in the Inheritance Cycle.  Eragon is about a boy and his dragon. Ok it's about a whole lot more than that but I am pretty sure we all know about this book.  I listened to this one on audio book and it was ok.   You either like this series or you don't. I don't really think I will continue it.  The narrator for this one was not my favorite but he was decent enough.  The dragon voice was weird. Overall I think that I just didn't find this book very original but i did give it 3 stars since i got through it. I don't really have much else to say about it.
Cinder, Book 1 of the Lunar Chronicles.  I am definitely a Marissa Meyer fan.  I was iffy on this series. The cyborg theme didn't really pull me in. I saw the first three books cheap on bookoutlet.com so I thought eh why not? So Cinder is part Cyborg, among other things, but I don't want to give anything away before you read.  She is a mechanic in New Beijing.  She meets the prince and the story develops from there. I really enjoyed this one so I am glad i caved and picked it up.  I gave it 4 stars as some parts were a little slow for me.
And then there was book 2 of the Lunar Chronicles. This book introduces Scarlet.  She works on her grandmothers farm. Eventually the characters in this book meet up with the characters in Cinder near the end of the book. I liked this one as well. Another 4 stars review. I took longer to read this one but it was still enjoyable. I picked up all the other books in the series but going to take a break from it for awhile.
I picked up Unhooked from the library but i probably would purchase it.  It is a retelling of Peter Pan but on the darker side.  Both Pan and Hook seem to be dark characters in the book and there are other "monsters" lurking around Neverland.  I don't want to divulge too much but i gave the book 4 stars. If you like retellings then definitely pick this one up. It was a quick, fun read for me.
Another library find.  Oh i loved this one! Young Adult Western! Not much of that out there unless you know of some then please let me know.  This book follows a girl chasing after her fathers' killers while being disguised as a boy.  The murder happens because of a gold mine.  I gave this one 4 stars.
Cruel crown.  I liked The Red Queen and I picked up the next one in the series so I assumed this book would be a great companion. Nope.  It bored me to pieces.  I really just skimmed through.  Queen song, the firt novella, was better than Steel Scars i suppose but overall not one i would recommend.  I gave it 3 stars because the writing was not so bad.

Well that is it for June. Hoping to get a lot of reading done in July.  Currently Reading Six of Crows! It's a good one so far!
